SFLC.in has played a significant role in fostering discussions around Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies by publishing insightful reports and hosting events that bring together various stakeholders. Regular interventions are made with the central government think-tank, NITI Aayog, to ensure that consistent dialogue exists between the various stakeholders.
Today, we all know intimately the problems created by technology platforms that collect our data and destroy our attention. This problem of pervasive behavior collection is destroying human privacy and sanity. Behavior collection technology is parasitizing our social life, metabolizing our behavior, and emitting hormones that compel our attention, stimulating more behavior. That’s why we see that the companies leading the AI race are now data miners.
SFLC.in advocates for open systems in AI that protect everyone’s right to access, learn from, and utilize these technologies, regardless of social status or financial ability. SFLC.in believes that open source AI models have the power to elevate society by reaching the pinnacle of human self-development and by upholding universal access to knowledge and innovation.
Since 2019, SFLC.in’s work on AI has emphasized using open source and defending users’ rights. We engage actively with industry, academia, and policymakers, to represent the rights of the people and to ensure AI systems are inclusive and accessible and free from financial and social barriers. SFLC.in has also voiced concern over AI that have potential for harms, including the flagrant use of facial recognition technologies which have been deployed in various states across India.
