Internet allows for the access of the most basic financial, healthcare, and educational facilities in the new age. Disruptions in the availability of the Internet, arbitrary or otherwise, causes long-standing material damage, and in most cases, amount the violation of constitutionally protected rights. SFLC.in actively engages with relevant stakeholders, both private and public, to ensure that access to quality Internet and availability of digital services is not interrupted. The Internet Shutdowns Tracker, first of its kind in India, which is run and maintained by SFLC.in, logs and details every single instance of disruption of access to Internet sanctioned by the State. The Free Speech Tracker project parallelly tracks all instances of violation of the freedom of speech and expression based on the governing laws in India, including those through disruption of Internet services. This is in addition to strategic litigation pursued by SFLC.in to insure that access remains fundamental.
