SFLC.in is launching a “Website Blocking” report which has sought to conduct a thorough review of the techno-legal ecosystem for Website Blocking which is required to assess the grounds on which websites can be blocked in the country whose Constitution enshrines the right to freedom of speech and expression, and prohibits their absolute suspension. This review has yielded in suggestions which, inter alia, not only seek to strengthen the public institutions while holding the Executive more accountable, but also makes suggestions for following the due process. To mark the occasion of the report launch and ignite conversation on the subject we are holding a panel discussion on ‘Error 404, Website Cannot be found’ which will begin at 6:30PM IST. The event is being organised in association with NewsClick which will be followed by the Report launch ‘Finding 404, A report on website blocking in India’ at 7:45PM IST.
The panelists for the event are Ms. Maria Xynou, Research Director at OONI, Ms. Dhanya Rajendran, Co-founder and Editor in Chief of The News Minute, Ms. Mishi Choudhary, Founder SFLC.in, Mr. Shyam Divan, Senior Advocate Supreme Court of India, Dr. Muktesh Chander, Retd. IPS officer. The panel will be moderated by Mr. Prabir Purkayastha, Editor of NewsClick.
