The Standing Committee on Communications and Information Technology (2025–26) of the Lok Sabha Secretariat is scheduled to hold its next sitting on 3 August 2026 at 4:00 PM. During the meeting, the Committee will receive a briefing from the representatives of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, and major social and digital media platforms, on the subject — ‘Social and Digital platforms and their regulation’.
SFLC.in has submitted a set of questions to the Parliamentary Standing Committee to be posed to the platforms during its examination of the sitting’s agenda. The questions are intended to help the Committee seek clarity on a range of crucial issues including shadow banning, use of automated decision-making in content moderation, the scope of community standards, copyright claims, and the protection of privacy and safety of women and minors on digital platforms, among others.
The questions also raise important contemporary concerns about transparency in takedown decisions, the handling of protest related posts, and the role of these platforms in enabling the use of facial recognition technology during recent protests.
