On the occasion of International Women’s Day 2025, we discussed the most widely used menstrual tracking apps in India and released the detailed analysis “Menstruapps: Tracking Your Cycle or Tracking You?” We analyzed and compared these apps, examining key concerns such as Data privacy, Monetization, Legal & ethical implications, and User empowerment. The discussion delved into critical questions: Who collects and owns the users’ menstrual health data? How can we ensure that bodily autonomy extends to digital spaces?
Dr. Paro Mishra, an Assistant Professor at IIIT Delhi, joined us and shared her expertise on femtech, privacy, and data protection. Dr. Mishra holds PhD from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi, and a master’s degree in Sociology from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), Delhi. Her areas of interest include gender, new reproductive technologies, information communication technologies, migration, kinship, and surveillance studies. Her current research is examining intersections of Gender, Health, and Digital Technologies with a focus on the emerging FemTech Landscape in India.
