Engineer Faces Arrest For Remarks on Facebook

A 31 year old ship building professional is likely to face arrest for allegedly posting anti-Modi remarks on Facebook, after an application for anticipatory bail filed by him was rejected by a trial court in Goa. Identified as Devu Chodankar, the engineer sought the bail after an FIR was lodged against him under Sections 153(A), 295(A) of the IPC and Section 66A, out of these sections 153(A) and 295(A) are non-bailable offenses. In his post Vedu had commented “There is imminent threat of Holocaust as it happened in Gujarat th(r)ough the garb of cunning government policies of Parrikar”, which was later deleted by him. Subsequently, thorugh another Facebook post, Devu had apologized for his choice of words but not the sum of his argument. Following the dismissal of his bail application, civil society activists are holding a protest on 24th May outside police headquarters in Panaji.
