Building a Safety Net
In the modern world, the internet has taken the role of a public square where people from all walks of life come together to express themselves. Safe internet is essential for all, especially for those who live at the margins of our society. But with the growing instances of harassment and abuse online, safety has been compromised in the digital world, making it difficult for women, particularly women from marginalized communities to have equal participation in the online sphere.
Once promised to be an open space for women, the internet has become a tool of harassment instead. We are deeply disturbed by the systematic, synchronized capture of the new age public space that deters women and those at the margins of our society from freely expressing themselves.
By the way of this panel discussion, we are hoping to understand the impact of online harassment as well as find ways to fight back and reclaim the Internet.
