On 6 February 2013, Sanjay Chaudhary, a Government employee in U.P was arrested from his residence with his laptop, sim card and data card being impounded by the Agra police, under charges of “promoting enmity between groups”, “performing acts prejudicial to the maintenance of harmony” and also for cyber crime under Section 66A.
Chaudhary had allegedly posted “inflammatory and communally charged” comments and caricatures insulting Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Union Minister Kapil Sibal and Samajwadi Party president Mulayam Singh Yadav on his Facebook wall. He was sent into jail custody for three days.
The posts were deleted soon after his arrest and his account was later deactivated.
