SFLC.in Wins the EFF Award 2025

SFLC.in has been honored with the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) Award 2025 for its outstanding work in defending digital freedoms in India. The recognition highlights SFLC.in’s decade-long commitment to promoting privacy, free expression, and open access through legal support, public education, and policy advocacy. As an organization that has consistently championed Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) and digital rights, this award marks a milestone in its mission to ensure an open, safe, and inclusive internet for all.

Throughout the year, SFLC.in has continued to advance digital rights through several key initiatives, including its Internet Shutdowns Tracker, Free Speech Tracker, and Digital Security Training programs. The organisation has also engaged in research and advocacy on the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, online freedom, and encryption, while building awareness through workshops, hackathons, and public discussions. Its collaborations with academic institutions, civil society, and technologists have helped strengthen conversations around privacy, accountability, and open technology in India’s digital landscape. The Digital Defenders Network is also an SFLC.in initiative that brings together technologists, lawyers, and activists to strengthen digital rights and online safety. It promotes collaboration, digital security awareness, and open-source innovation to protect internet freedom.

About the EFF Awards

The EFF Awards, formerly known as the Pioneer Awards, have celebrated global leaders in digital rights since their establishment in 1992 by the Electronic Frontier Foundation, a nonprofit defending civil liberties in the digital world. Each year, the awards honour individuals and organisations whose work advances innovation, transparency, and freedom online. The 2025 edition recognised Just Futures Law, Erie Meyer, and SFLC.in for their impactful contributions to technology, justice, and privacy worldwide, reinforcing the spirit of a free and open internet that the EFF has championed for over three decades.
