Mishi Choudhary, Founder of SFLC.in, spoke with The Economic Times about India’s current laws and regulatory practices regarding citizen data protection amid large-scale AI deployment. She also highlighted the privacy issues concerning new GenAI models being adopted by various companies, such as Meta.
She said “When privacy and data protection laws are lax or ambiguous, companies use clever words to justify using public data to train their products. Several companies have tried to change the wording of their Terms and Conditions/Privacy policies to be able to scoop publicly available data to train their models.”
She also emphasized the need for users to opt out of Meta AI and called for stricter action by the Indian government in cases of such violations.
