The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) directed all media channels to refrain from displaying live coverage of defence operations and movement of security forces. In an advisory dated April 26, 2025, the Government stressed the role of media, digital platforms, and individuals in preserving national security.
Prasanth Sugathan, Legal Director at the Software Freedom Law Centre (SFLC), agreed with the notion of mentioning the IT Rules in the advisory. He noted that the Programme Code under Section 5 of the Cable Television Networks Regulation Act, 1995, applies to “publishers of news and current affairs content” as per Rule 8(1)(a) of the IT Rules, 2021.”
