FIR was filed against Yuvraj Singh for using the word Bhangi in a social media post. He was granted an anticipatory bail in the matter. A petition was filed for quashing of the FIR. The court partially granted the relief and quashed the charges under section 153A and 153B of the IPC. It was observed by the court that the ingredients for the offence under the sections 153A and 153B are not met. However, for the offences under the SC/ST act, the court observed that the word “Bhangi” is used to notify scheduled castes. Therefore, constituting an offence under section 2 of the SC/ST act.
