On 11 September 2013, Gaurav Sehgal, a resident of Agra was booked for charges of insulting a woman and for sending offensive information, breach of privacy and misrepresentation under (Sections 66A, 71, 72 and 72A of the IT Act) by the Panchkula police, who registered an FIR against him following a complaint filed by a resident of Panchkula.
Sehgal had allegedly uploaded a picture of an FIR on Facebook. The picture listed his sister-in-law, and her family in the FIR report. Upon noticing the image, Sehgal’s sister-in-law asked her father to file a complaint. It is alleged that the same was done for the purpose of defamation. He was granted bail by the Court on 17 December, 2013.
