A criminal defamation case was filed by former minister MJ Akbar against journalist Ms. Priya Ramani, after she accused him of sexual harassment in an article. A Delhi trial court had previously, in Feb 2021, acquitted Ms. Ramani of the offence, stating that the right to reputation could not be protected by sacrificing the right to dignity. Against this, Mr. Akbar appealed before the Delhi High Court.
