Two journalists, Kishorchandra Wangkhemcha and Erendro Leichombam, were arrested under the NSA for Facebook posts criticizing cow dung and cow urine as COVID-19 remedies. While Erendro was released by the Supreme Court on July 5, Kishorchandra remained detained. The Court noted no distinction between their cases, as both made similar posts. Kishorchandra’s wife petitioned for his release, highlighting repeated attempts to revoke the NSA charges. The Court suspended the Manipur government’s NSA order, citing the Supreme Court’s ruling in Erendro’s case as applicable.
