Learning Call June: Navigating the Future – Regulating Emerging Technologies under DIB

In view of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) announcement of the Digital India Bill in March 2023, SLFC.in is hosting a virtual learning call on “Navigating the Future: Regulating Emerging Technologies under DIB” scheduled for Thursday, June 13th, 2024.

The regulatory landscape for emerging technologies is rapidly evolving globally, and the need for domestic legislation cannot be overemphasized. However, little public information exists on the bill’s components and how it will achieve its claims. The learning call aims to address issues related to regulating emerging technologies, such as AI, ML, and blockchain, under the proposed Digital India Bill.

Agenda:

  1. Should emerging technologies such as AI, ML, and blockchain be regulated through a separate law?
  2. What are specific areas of concern and safeguards in regulating emerging technologies?
  3. What lessons can India learn from international developments under the EU-AI Act and proposed US-AI Regulations dealing with such technology?

The discourse will center around recommendations for the proposed Digital India Bill to ensure transparency and accountability for all stakeholders. The learning call will facilitate discussion on the necessary requirements for the DIB to ensure that users enjoy an open, safe, accountable, and trustworthy Internet.
